Happy Friday!!!!
Since fall is fast approaching, I thought I'd post these oh so beautiful cape cod summer cottage pics before it's too late!
Interior Designer Meredith Hutchinson tried building onto her family's long-owned Cape Cod retreat. When the foundation proved not suitable for expanding, she simply rebuilt the entire house.
She wanted a gathering place place for her four brothers (and their families) and Aunt, where cherished summer memories could be had.
What she got, with the help of her architect husband, is a charming, fresh, whimsical take on the beloved Cape Cod Cottage. None of the old cottage charm was sacrificed for the modern updates.
The results are spectacular!!!
I love the use of white walls, beadboard ceilings, and yellow heart pine floors mixed with nautical antiques and not-too-fussy slip coverings.
Besides all of the fabulous built in cabinetry, and striped stair runners (a fav of mine)...this is my favorite element of the house...
This fireplace has an authentic drift wood mantel, and all of the stones on this fireplace were beach stones from Cape Cod!!!!!
And of course I can't leave this post, without mentioning how much I adore the sea-life hand-hooked wool pillows from Chandler 4 Corners. used throughout the house!
I would buy this pillow in a second...if I didn't think it would severely disturb my vegetarian mother :) Sorry mom...maybe I'll buy this one instead:
At least it's not showing the crustacean being sacrificed to the steamer...what an odd pillow?!
